Have You Been Inadvertently Damaging Your Diet?

By Tina Sanchez

We all understand that the very best foods to take in when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These are the foods that give us protein and energy. They keep the body nutritionally balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to reduce our fat at the gym. Are you aware, however, that a number of the foods you've been thinking are good for your diet could actually be making you retain weight? They could even be keeping you from losing weight altogether! Here are several foods that you could be eating which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

You usually are not really served by Sports Drinks. You've probably been thinking that the sports drink is the best way to help your body feel much better after a workout. Most physicians agree, however, that if your exercise routine is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are packed with sugar and calories and a lot of other things you don't need such as artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Choose chocolate milk for your beverage as a substitute. Your body utilizes the sugar inside the chocolate for muscle tissue repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Skip that protein shakes. Lots of people feel that protein shakes can be utilized rather than meals and to curb cravings between meals. When you happen to be eating an otherwise healthy diet, however, a protein shake just sends you into protein overdose. No matter what other people imagine, protein is not stored in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. If you've already had your daily allotment of protein that day, your body will just keep the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't enable you to drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't really nutritious at all. You possibly are convinced a sandwich that is made out of pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a large amount of preservatives and can provide you with about a third of your advised sodium intake for the day. This can be particularly dangerous if you are at risk for heart disease. Instead of purchasing the pre-packaged stuff, you should instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Sure these types of options are more high priced but they are much healthier for you in the long run.

There are a wide range of things that we think will help us shed weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask a medical expert which elements are the most effective to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are very careful about what you eat and are good to your entire body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
