The Many Benefits Of Arch Support Inserts For Flat Feet

By Young Lindsay

Sore and swollen feet and ankles can make it difficult to move around. Most people never consider their feet as important until they start to experience constant pain. In most cases problems with the feet can be traced back to neglect, such as wearing the wrong type or size of shoe. Those with fallen arches struggle with a host of problems, but with arch support inserts for flat feet they can obtain almost immediate relief.

People with dropped insteps can suffer from a wide range of symptoms. Most of them complain of swollen and sore feet. Many others experience almost constant pain in the lower back and very few people suffering from this condition can stand up straight for any period of time. Their feet are wider than normal and this may make it difficult to find shoes that fit properly.

Unfortunately there is not much that can be done about fallen insteps. The best advice is to use special insteps that support the foot and that will lift the fallen arch. Luckily, these insoles are freely available from quality footwear vendors. They can be used in more than one pair of shoes and they will provide a great deal of relief.

Most podiatrists will refuse to even consider surgery as a cure, but there are those that argue that an artificial implant can create a new instep. The majority of experts are dead set against such surgery, however. In most of the cases the patient will suffer serious discomfort for the rest of his life. Patients considering this course of action should ask for expert opinions from more than one specialist.

Those with fallen insteps can benefit from exercises designed to strengthen their ligaments and tendons. Podiatrists encourage their patients to walk barefoot as often as they can. Walking barefoot in thick sand is even better. It also helps if the patients perform stretch exercises each day. The toes are stretched as far apart as possible and this stance is kept for a few seconds.

It is interesting to note that babies are all born without insteps. The arches develop at a later stage. Some people simply never develop in this area. This is not a catastrophe, however. It is considered to be an extremely mild deformity and the condition can be controlled by using insoles and by doing regular exercises. Many people develop fallen insteps in later life, mostly due to age or obesity.

Too many people do not look after their feet properly and that is one of the reasons why they develop fallen arches later on in life. Exercises to strengthen the tendons and ligaments in the ankles and feet should be performed from a young age. It is also vital to wear only shoes that provide support and that fit properly. Sportspeople should always wear the shoes designed specifically for the type of sport they play.

Insoles can do much to help relieve the symptoms of fallen arches. Those with normal arches can also benefit, however. These insoles provide support exactly where it is needed. It is recommended that insoles are bought only from reputable manufacturers that specialize in foot orthotics.
