Things To Put Into Consideration About Mini Dental Implants

By Nelda Powers

Mini dental implants are small rod of metals that have internal screw which hold replacement teeth in place. These metals are made of titanium the jawbone and the implant fuse together as the patient heals. A lot of accuracy should be observed during preparation and placement of denture. This is because they are very small, accuracy will ensure that they fuse and load properly.

The miniatures titanium is usually inserted into the jawbone for it to act as a replacement of the root of a normal tooth. The implant has a head that is shaped like a ball while the retaining fixture operates as a socket. An artificial tooth is attached to the implant to replace the missing tooth. Implants act as anchors that hold the tooth replacement in the right place.

These types of implants can be used for a very long time as supporting structures. They can also be used in single tooth replacements of crowns and bridges. The denture will sit comfortably and will be held securely on gums if placed properly. A denture wearer will be confident and feel good about themselves because of mini dental implants as they are very effective.

While patients are mostly required to have healthy gums and be in good health to qualify for dental implants, mini surgery can be done on anyone even people with health issues as no incision or major surgery is required. Also people with bleeding problems can undergo this procedure as little local anesthesia is used. Most dental surgeries are usually carried out in two or three stages depending on the number of procedures that need to be carried out.

Some patients may have side effects which may include swelling or discomfort on the area where the implant was placed. Discomfort mostly disappears within 48hours but where the client continues feeling uncomfortable after two days he or she is advised to go back to the dentist and have the place checked out. Patients can also swallow pain killers like paracetamol to relieve pain and swelling where need be.

After surgery the dentist usually informs his patient on the kind of pain killers he should use in case of any side effects. Some of the complications that patients face include excessive bleeding as a result abrupt reaction to the anesthesia. Too much bleeding may also be attributed to screwing of titanium poles in the gum of a patient.

While very little anesthesia is used during this procedure some patients have very sensitive gums that may react to this during and after surgery. Where the nerves of the lower jaw are damaged the patient may feel numbness temporarily. X-rays and CT scans will enable the dentist to see where the positions of the nerves in the jawbone which in turn will help minimize bleeding and numbness.

Like natural teeth mini dental implants should always be clean. Brush them like you would your natural teeth. The dentist will show the patient how to cleaning implants after the procedure. It is very important to go for regular check-ups in order for the dentist to ensure that the bite is right and the implants are not loose. In case of any pain the patient should visit the dentist immediately for examination.
